In the year we are currently living in, there are apps that do our matchmaking for us, services that will deliver our favorite restaurants’ dishes right to our front door, and we have a woman running for the presidential seat in the White House. It’s a pretty fast-paced and advanced world which has affected all aspects of our daily lives. Specifically, in the realm of dating. The “norms” that are seen in every 90’s rom-com are very different than what is considered a “norm” today. Casual dating? One night stands? Even dating multiple people at once? Oh my!
Being a girl boss in dating is sexy, not slutty
Sex is still, however, seen as a male dominated activity. Though it has come a long way, it’s still the stigma that men who have a lot of sex are deemed “gods” and women who have a lot of sex are judged and even put down as “sluts.” However, newsflash world: sex, specifically casual sex, is acceptable no matter what gender you are, and there are no judgments for people who enjoy casual sex with multiple partners!!!
Now that we’ve gotten that cleared up, it’s time to discuss the ever confusing concept of seeing more than one person at once. Is it a good thing? Bad thing? Should I just become a nun to avoid the confusion? The correct answer is, there is no right answer. However, the best advice I can give is to just do you. Hashtag girl boss.
The code of girl boss ethics
Dating and having romantic relationships are more complicated processes than what they were even ten years ago. With the boom of social media, dating has taken on a whole new form. The lines are blurred when it comes to just “talking” to someone versus “dating” them, so use your best girl boss judgment when it comes to the different stages of any romantic relationship you have in your life.
If you “talk” to multiple people who are solely there to text at 2 AM when you’re drunk and looking for some fun, then by all means continue this, and just be safe. However, it’s okay to see these people during the daytime and do daytime, sober things too, as long as you both understand and accept that you are not exclusive to each other.
However, if you are developing feelings for more than one person, and seeing them during the daylight and sober and doing “couple-y” things, maybe it’s time to reconsider what these relationships mean to you. If you feel that you are developing strong feelings for one person, and you want to be exclusively seeing this one said person, then go for it.
It’s better to talk about your feelings and what you want as opposed to keeping a hidden agenda. And remember, you can always opt out of a relationship; just make sure you know the steps to achieving a perfect breakup.
